How scanned PDF compression works
Scanned PDFs often contain large page images rather than plain text. PDF Compressor renders each page and rebuilds the PDF using your chosen resolution and JPEG quality. Lower settings can reduce the size of scanned documents, while grayscale and black-and-white options can help with colour-heavy scans. Start with Balanced and compare readability with your original before keeping the result.
How do I compress a scanned PDF?
Upload your PDF, choose a preset and select Compress. Preview the result, check that small text and stamps remain readable, then download it. Keep your original document.
Will my PDF always become smaller?
No. Savings depend on the source images and your settings. Already optimized PDFs may have little room for improvement. The result shows the actual size change.
Which settings should I use for scanned documents?
Start with Balanced at 150 dpi. Use a higher resolution for small print, or lower JPEG quality for a smaller result. Grayscale can help when colour is not important; black and white can work for plain text but may remove detail from stamps and photographs. Check the preview before downloading.
Does compression preserve searchable text and signatures?
The result contains rendered page images. Existing OCR text, editable form fields and original digital signatures are not preserved. This tool does not add OCR.
Do results have a watermark?

How are uploaded PDF files handled?
Your files are uploaded to the service for processing and stored temporarily, together with the compressed results. Automatic cleanup removes expired session files; keep your own originals and download results you want to retain. See our Privacy & Terms for details.
HTTPS & Cloudflare protection
CloudflareConnections use HTTPS. Traffic passes through Cloudflare to our Azure application for processing. Uploaded PDFs and results are stored temporarily, not as a permanent archive, and expired session files are deleted automatically.
Default cleanup settings: sessions idle for 60 minutes become eligible for deletion; cleanup runs every 10 minutes while the application is running. Timing can vary with hosting and configuration. Download your results and keep your originals.
